Jesus, Name above all names (Alternative Lyrics)

Wanting more than one verse to sing, I wrote 3 verses based on the theme of
Phillipians 2:8-11
verse 1. Jesus laying down His glory coming down to earth,
verse 2. the Suffering Servant
verse 3. the Risen Lord.

The chords I've used also reflect the tone of each verse, 2 being sad in minor keys, and 3 being victorious written with a key change and lots of major chords. See the next blog for a chords breakdown.

1. Jesus
Promised Messiah
Laid down your glory
Took on a servant’s nature

Son of God
Came down from heaven
Dwelt among us
Emmanuel

2. Lamb of God
Humble and lowly
Suffering Servant
Atoning sacrifice

Crucified
Willingly gave Your life
Jesus, You bled and died
Entered the grave

3. Risen Lord
Conquering Victor
You rose victorious
Death could not hold You down

Given - the Name above all names
Lion of Judah
King of all kings

Battle Hymn (alternative lyrics)

Alternative words by Joe Vermeulen.
Being in a congregation of mosly South African migrants who knew the tune, but for many the high English words had little meaning - I rewrote parts of the lyrics to suit our people, thereby making it more singable and understandable.

My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
It is written that the Son will come, creation to restore
But until that day, His Church will pray
For God to open doors
His Kingdom to advance

(Chorus 1)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His being that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free,
While God is marching on.

(Chorus 2)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
While God is marching on.

We can almost hear the trumpet sound
The Lord’s return is near
There are still so many people lost His Gospel they must hear
Still the Spirit and the Church say “Maranatha, Come!”
The Lord’s return is near!

(Chorus 3)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Our God is marching on.
